Q

what does it mean when the online catalog for the library books say that it is recently being cataloged? Is it able to be checked out?

I am looking for the book Dear Zari: the secret lives of women of Afghanistan written by Kargar, Zarghuna the number that the online catalog gave me is HQ1735.6.K37 2012

Answer

Hi Danielle,

When the a book is identified in the Library online catalog as being "recently cataloged," that means that it is an item that has been recently purchased and has arrived at our Library Technical Services office for processing.  From there, it will be sent on to one of the campus libraries - in this case, the East Campus Library.

You have a few options to get the book:

1)  You can wait for the book to arrive at the East campus.  (It should be there in a matter of days.)

2)  You can go back into the book's Catalog record and use the "Request" button (on the upper right of the screen) and request that one of our other copies of the book be sent to your campus of choice.  (That would take 1-3 working days.)

3)  You can go either to the Desert Vista or the Downtown Campus library and pick up a copy of the book there.

Here's the catalog record:  library.pima.edu/record=b1722459~S0 .

I hope this helps!  Let us know if you have any other questions, and thanks for using "Ask a Librarian."
