Q. Why don't you want me to reshelve the books I use?

Answer

Good question!

It's true that we prefer that you DO NOT re-shelve the books you look at in the library.  We prefer that you lay these books or videos down on a shelf or table.  We will collect them and shelve them.  (Obviously, if the item is checked-out to you then return it in the book drop!)

The reason for this policy:

  • If our staff members re-shelve the materials, we know they will shelved properly.
  • When we re-shelve, we count how many times a specific item was used "in-library."  Along with statistics on how many times items are checked out, this helps us measure interest in specific books and topics.  This is useful when we order new books or remove old books from the collection.
  • Plus, this policy saves YOU time.  Read more, re-shelve less!
