How do I get my textbooks?

Answer

You have options for getting textbooks, depending on what your instructor requires. This varies by class.

Check the official listing of the textbooks for your class

  • Some classes don't require a textbook

  • Some classes provide a free textbook within D2L.

  • Some classes list the required textbook to purchase.

Two places to check:

  • Read your class syllabus (in D2L).

  • Or check the Schedule of Courses.

    • Make sure you have the right semester, then search by your CRN number.

    • Click View Books for the Bookstore's list of required texts.

About classes with no required text

  • Your instructor will supply you with links in D2L to required readings, at no charge.

  • You can read these online, or save them as PDFs (for taking notes), or print them out.

About classes with free textbooks in D2L

Your class may use an OER (Open Educational Resource) textbook. This is free to you and found in your D2L course. The authors of this textbook have given PCC permission to use and adapt this text. Usually, it is divided into chapters, and each chapter will be a separate PDF.

About classes with a required textbook for purchase (or "inclusive access")

It is your responsibility to get a copy of these, which may be paper, or online, or both. Three options follow.

PCC Bookstore

  • Check out the College Bookstore.

    • This document walks you through the steps to find and order your course texts

    • If you are using the Early Book Purchase Program (EBPP), use the payment option called "Financial Aid." It will be activated 10 days before the start of the term. his assumes you have excess financial aid, scholarship, or veterans benefit funding. You need to supply your PCC A#.  Also, if you pick up textbooks in person using the EBPP book program you need to show a photo ID.

Sometimes you can borrow a similar edition to the required textbook.

  • Search the PCC Library for your ISBN    Example: 9780134696522
  • If you find a possible match, visit the campus library that owns the item.
  • NOTE: If the textbook is part of our RESERVES collection, you will only be able to borrow it for a few hours at a time and will need to use it in the campus library. You can copy, scan or photograph selected portions for personal use.

Note on Inclusive Access course materials

You may be able to opt-out of the purchase of course materials provided via the Inclusive Access method (when a course fee is added to ensure that every student has access to the required textbook on day one) if you find a better price or free access via the Library. You can't opt-out until D2L opens your course on the first day of the term. This video shows how to opt out: https://vimeo.com/755662487/bdf12bf437
