How can I fact-check the information that the AI assistant gave me?
Many widely used AI assistants—including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and Perplexity—can search the web and link to sources. However, they don’t search for every response, and cited sources don’t always support the AI’s claims.
Open the links and check:
- Does the source actually say what the AI claims?
- Is it current and relevant?
- Who created it, and are they knowledgeable about the topic?
- Can you confirm the information through another reliable source?
If the AI response doesn’t include links to sources, ask it to provide them.
For academic or high-stakes information, consult library databases, original research, official sources, or qualified experts.
